An experienced art teacher

Peter Stanyer is better known as ‘Stan’ to his friends, colleagues and students. An artist, author and extremely experienced art teacher with an international reputation, Stan has published a number of successful books on drawing.

With an MA in Fine Art (Painting) from the Royal College of Art, Stan has taught for over 20 years at many different levels in further and higher education. Many of the students that Stan has taught to draw and paint have subsequently gone on to study at some of the country’s most prestigious art colleges – Goldsmiths, Chelsea, St. Martins, Slade, Royal College of Art, to name a few. Since Stan began teaching the City & Guilds art courses eight years ago, students of his have been awarded City and Guilds national gold medals of excellence.

Drawing and painting for enjoyment

Yet, not all of Stan’s students are interested in gaining qualifications in the subject. Many take his art classes to learn how to draw and paint for leisure.

“I am passionate about teaching drawing and painting. I firmly believe in step-by-step teaching of drawing and painting techniques that enable the student to build a visual language and vocabulary. As the student progresses through this practice, they gain the confidence to develop their own creativity, individual style and way of expressing their own observations and ideas.
